This is a video that answers my driving question.

A surveyor measures and maps the land.Today,a close settler chose a tract of land.So,I carefully laid stakes,and I also marked trees and rocks to show the tract’s edges.I had to draw a detailed map called a plat.I wrote a report about the land.Once complete,all was sent for government approval.Then the settler received a land patent signed by the govern or new land owner often fenced his land to protect.A surveyor needs skills in math,science,writing,and art which I am good at.Most of us learned our trade by working with experienced surveyors.Books are not always helpful.Practice is the best teacher.A surveyor works in the wilderness.Conditions are rough.I needed to be healthy and strong.Two tools are vital to a surveyor’s work.I use a compass for cardinal directions,I also use a set of chains. Thomas Jefferson’s father,Peter, was a surveyor.George Washington also worked as a surveyor the trade combined Washington’s love of math and the great outdoors.That is what I know from being a surveyor.

• I was most surprised by making a great grade on the reading benchmark.
• The thing I disliked was the STAAR test.
